In the UK, BMW offered 2 audio levels in the 1 and 2 series platforms.

 

Base Audio - no amplifier, no tweeters, 4" in the front door, 6" under seat 'woofers', 4" in the rear door.

Harmon Kardon - analogue fed amplifier in the boot, tweeters in the front doors with branded grills, 4" in the front door, a centre speaker, 8" under seat woofers, 4" in the rear door.

 

The Harmon Kardon system sadly wasn't the full fat Harmon Kardon as found in the larger  3 / 4 / 5 series cars. While it was certainly an upgrade over the 'base' system, it can easily be improved upon. For Harmon Kardon equipped cars, we suggest looking at Sound Package 2 onwards.
